Turn your eyes upon Jesus

“But we are able to see Jesus …” (Hebrews 2:9, Amplified Bible)

As I was reading Hebrews 2 this morning, this phrase almost glistened on the page. There is so much of life we can’t see; so much we don’t understand. There are so many distractions vying for our attention; so many pressures pushing in from every side.

What I personally want more than anything today is a clear vision of Jesus. This verse says it’s possible. But how can that possibility become a reality?

I was going to be a math major in college until I couldn’t get the teacher I wanted for trigonometry and calculus my senior year in high school. So, I did the logical thing: I punted math and became a music major!

I have no regrets about that choice, but I never learned the higher math. However, I’m still pretty good at simple math so here’s an equation for you:

Desire + Intentionality = Vision

I won’t see Jesus clearly if I don’t really, really want to see Him clearly.

I won’t see Jesus clearly if I don’t do what is necessary to position myself to see Him clearly.

Helen H. Lemmel wrote these words in 1922:

“O soul, are you weary and troubled? No light in the darkness you see? There’s light for a look at the Savior, And life more abundant and free!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face, And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, In the light of His glory and grace.”

I am going to work on today’s math equation. Won’t you join me?

Question: What are some ways that we can intentionally position ourselves to see Jesus?

Leave a comment below.  I’d love to learn from you.
