(My morning back porch view)
“For every beast of the forest is Mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills or upon the mountains where thousands are. I know and am acquainted with all the birds of the mountains, and the wild animals of the field are Mine and are with Me, in My mind. If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world and its fullness are Mine.” (Psalm 50:10-12, Amplified Bible)
“This is my Father’s world, and to my listening ears all nature sings, and round me rings the music of the spheres. This is my Father’s world: I rest me in the thought of rocks and trees, of skies and seas; his hand the wonders wrought.
This is my Father’s world, the birds their carols raise, the morning light, the lily white, declare their maker’s praise. This is my Father’s world, he shines in all that’s fair; in the rustling grass I hear him pass; he speaks to me everywhere.”
(My Father’s World, Maltbie Davenport Babcock, first published in 1901)
This morning, I am sitting on my back porch reading, praying, and listening to God. It is going to be hot today, but there is a slight cooling breeze this morning. I hear the morning songs of birds, an occasional dog’s bark in the distance, a rooster’s crow, a lamb’s bleating, the whispers of the leaves in the trees, and the occasional satisfied sigh of a 12-year-old Golden Retriever lying at my feet.
The day will be full once I get going, but this time of stillness and reflection in God’s presence is a reminder that it is His world and His day that I will enter.
Question: How can reflecting on God’s world help you to put your day’s activities into perspective?
