“They have turned their backs to me and not their faces; yet when they are in trouble, they say,’Come and save us!’ “ (Jeremiah 2:27, New International Version)
My kids did it to me. I did it to my parents. I’m sure my parents did it to their parents. And so forth, for every generation.
“I can do it myself!”
We assert our independence. We value our freedom. We resist accountability. We grasp control.
As long as things are going our way, or at least as long as we think we can handle it, we look toward our own agendas and want our parents to be hands-off and tell us what big boys and girls we are.
But then we get in over our heads. We don’t know what to do. We don’t necessarily admit we were wrong, but we want their help. We don’t want them to redirect us or teach us, we want them to rescue us so we can continue on with our plans.
If you’ve been there on the parent side, how did it make you feel?
Question: How do you think it makes God feel when we do the same to Him?
