This morning, I’m remembering…

when Mrs. Sweetie picked our favorite daughter from 1st grade and got some strange looks when our daughter asked—in front of everyone—“You didn’t clean the potty without me, did you?”

We really didn’t torture her by making her clean toilets. She had somehow decided it was her job and she liked helping with the housecleaning. 🤷‍♂️

My brother’s family lived close enough to my dad that they were always helping on the ranch. His youngest son really liked working with Grandpa—almost from the time he could walk.

He got home from his first day of kindergarten and found out that Grandpa had been working all day. “Grandpa,” he scolded, “you shouldn’t have worked without me!”

My grandkids like to help me when they’re at my house. If I ask them to help me carry something or to help unload the clothes dryer, they act like it’s an honor to be a helper.

When I was reading Ephesians 3 this morning, verse 7 caught my attention:

“I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace given me through the working of his power.”

I have to admit that I don’t always see the opportunity to serve as a gift.

Sometimes I’d rather be doing other things. Sometimes I’d rather be served. Sometimes I’d rather be a couch potato.

It seems that Paul had embraced “servant of the gospel” as part of his identity.

But he wasn’t resigned to be a servant. He was amazed to be a servant.

He saw his calling to serve as a gift of God’s grace. He didn’t HAVE to serve; he GOT to serve.

The longer I’ve lived as a follower of Jesus, the more this makes sense to me.

It is because of His grace and His love for us that He invites us to join Him in His amazing work in the world. He doesn’t NEED our help. He loves us so much that He doesn’t want us to miss out on what He’s doing.

That’s pretty cool.

Join me in singing: A helper I will be …

Be amazing today, my friend.
