Happy page-turner Saturday, friends!

Have you ever thought of your life in terms of chapters?

Maybe the easiest (and most common) way of doing that is by age: childhood, adolescence, young adulthood, middle adulthood, senior adulthood.

Another common way is by significant events like graduations, weddings (or divorces), births (or deaths), career changes (or retirements).

Maybe it’s because I’m on the back end of those methods that I’ve decided I don’t like the big, broad chapters as much.

Over the past few years, I’ve enjoyed reading a lot of fiction in the mystery/thriller/page-turner genre.

The kind of books that keep you up at night.

Not because you can’t sleep, but because the chapters are so short that you keep saying, “just one more and then I’ll call it a night.”

And then an hour later …

That’s how I’ve been thinking of life lately. It’s not nearly as much about new chapters as it is about turning pages and changing scenes.

I shared in last week’s pondering that I had participated in the 50th anniversary celebration concert of the Singing Men of Texas. Two nights ago I started my 17th season with the North Central chapter and in a few weeks I’ll start my 3rd season with the Panhandle chapter.

The page turns.

Last Sunday, the church where I’ve served as interim pastor for the past 14 months finally called a new pastor. I’ll finish my time with them on September 7.

The page turns.

Today we celebrate the life of Mrs. Sweetie’s sister, who passed away on August 8.

The page turns.

Some page turns are slow and deliberate. Others are abrupt and unexpected.

But they keep turning.

As they should, because our story is ongoing.

There will be a day for all of us that we reach the final page of our life story and we will look for these words:

The End.

And yet, for those who know Jesus, it will be a page turn to a whole new storyline for eternity.

Be amazing today, my friend.
