Happy end-of-season Saturday, friends!
What season?
Concert season.
April 16 was the final concert of my 3rd season with the Singing Men of Texas – Panhandle.
April 17 was the end of season ballet recital for both my granddaughters.
Tonight is the final concert of my 3rd full season with the Amarillo Master Chorale.
May 7 will be the final concert of my 17th season with the Singing Men of Texas – North Central.
May 9 will be the end of season guitar recital for my oldest grandson.
Many hours of rehearsals all around that culminate in applause.
Hopefully, it’s not just applause.
My scripture reading today was Psalm 115.
Verse 1 is a reminder to me that glory belongs to God, not those of us who have the privilege of being on the platform.
That doesn’t mean that I don’t want people to applaud (I most certainly do—when applause is appropriate).
But I want to remember that applause is neither the goal nor the reward.
The goal is God’s glory.
The reward is being the vehicle by which God delivers beauty, blessing, and encouragement.
After 60+ years of singing in public, I still need to remember that.
And I need God’s grace to help my grandchildren grow in their sense of amazement that God could use their performances to bless people and bring glory to Himself (while still making sure they know that their completely biased Grandpa thinks they are the awesomest).
My hymn text today was a good pairing with my verse.
He is worthy of all the praise and glory.
That’s MY story.
What about YOU?
Maybe you’re like me and spend a lot of time “out front.”
How do you keep your focus on resisting glory that is not yours to keep?
Maybe your life is much more in the “background.”
How do you keep from minimizing your ability to glorify God and bless people?
“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 3:17)
Thank You, Jesus, for giving each of us the incredible privilege of being Your hands, Your feet, Your voice in our circles of influence every day.
Be amazing today, my friend.
