On this Saturday, the day before Easter, I’m thinking of a world in chaos and confusion.
Probably because I read this morning about the riot in Ephesus that is recorded in Acts 19.
“The assembly was in confusion: Some were shouting one thing, some another. Most of the people did not even know why they were there” (Acts 19:32).
The picture I chose for today is one that I took of the amphitheater in Ephesus when I was there almost a year ago.
I was probably standing just a few yards away from where all the craziness happened.
I wonder how many times we get caught up and carried along in chaos that we don’t begin to understand.
I wonder how many times we become convinced that something is true for no better reason than how loudly it is being shouted.
I wonder how many times we feel compelled to prioritize our personal preferences and conveniences over the needs of our neighbors.
I wonder how many times we delay extending grace and mercy to our opponents because we’ve become convinced that winning is the most important aim.
My hymn text today is a simple chorus that doesn’t contain deep theological truth.
Or does it?
“In my life, Lord, be glorified today.”
I am not in a position to have much of an influence on the chaos in the world.
I am, however, perfectly positioned to respond to the chaos around me.
To begin each day with a hot cup of coffee, my bible, and my hymnal—asking God to shape my responses in such a way that His name is glorified—
And to do it again tomorrow.
Be amazing today, my friend.
