“And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.” (Colossians 3:17, New Living Translation)
“So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31, New Living Translation)
Some of you know that many mornings I post on Facebook the text of a hymn that I have read as part of my devotional time. It is usually just a photo with the caption “Today’s hymn text.” This year, I have been using “The One Year Book of Hymns” (Tyndale House Publishers, 1995). I have already selected the new book for next year: “Near to the Heart of God: Meditations on 366 Best-loved Hymns” by Robert J. Morgan (Revell, 2010)
This year I have discovered many wonderful texts of hymns with which I am unfamiliar. Today’s text, “Teach Me, My God and King” (George Herbert, 1593-1633) is one of those. It is the first stanza that inspired my thoughts for today.
Teach me, my God and King,
In all things Thee to see,
And what I do in anything,
To do it as for Thee.
How might our lives be different if we would do these two things?
- Look for God in everything, everywhere, every way, every day, asking Him to reveal Himself TO us as we go about our daily activities.
- Asking Him to reveal Himself THROUGH us, seeking that our every action, word, and attitude might bring Him glory and serve His eternal purpose.
Question: What one thing about your day would need to change for you to take that approach?
