Have you ever looked up while driving and realized that you have no idea how you got to your current location?

Maybe you were distracted and missed a turn.

Maybe you were mistaken about a landmark.

Maybe you really thought you could get there by memory … and now you realize that you really just … can’t …

Thank goodness for Roger L. Easton, Ivan A. Getting, and Bradford Parkinson!  These three scientists are credited with inventing the satellite navigation system that has become known as the Global Positioning System (GPS).

With my trusty Garmin GPS unit or the built-in GPS capability of my iPhone, I can figure out where I am and, having located myself, where I need to go from here.  These little gems have saved my bacon quite a few times.

Of course, I often think I know better and I go my own way anyway.  It’s a little disconcerting to hear Siri’s voice utter a deep sigh and say, “In 400 yards, pull over and let me out, you stubborn moron!

Have you ever looked up in the middle of life and realized that you’re not sure how you got here and where you should go next?

Wouldn’t it be great if there was a GPS for life?

I actually think there is.

For the past three years, I’ve been studying, pondering, reflecting, and working on something that I am calling the Life Positioning System. Through six powerful and strategic choices, we can locate ourselves and position ourselves on a trajectory toward the life we were made for—the life we’ve always wanted to live, but maybe just didn’t know how.

The Life Positioning System presents these six choices as tools to help us clarify where we are in relation to where we want to go.  The choices do not determine our destination for us but help us prepare to navigate well.

So, what are these choices? I’m glad you asked.

I’m going to list them here and give a brief description of each one. Over the next several weeks, I’ll unpack them in a bit more detail.

Choice 1 – Choose your circle.  Where will you invest your limited time and energy?

Choice 2 – Choose your story. How will you decide what defines you?

Choice 3 –  Choose your questions. What deeper questions will you ask when life happens?

Choice 4 – Choose your habits. What life-changing patterns do you need to embrace (or abandon)?

Choice 5 – Choose your language.  How will you use different words to create new worlds of opportunity?

Choice 6 – Choose your view. How will you adjust your perspective to see life as it could be?

I hope I’ve given you some things to think about.  Maybe more questions than answers, but that’s where the learning happens.  Real clarity, purpose, and anticipation of the journey only come when we learn to change the way we think.

Romans 12:2 says, Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

God knows how you got here, where you need to be headed, and how to inspire you to join His dream for you.  Your life matters.  I can’t wait to share more with you next time.

Be amazing, my friend.
