One of them [Pharisees], an expert in religious law, tried to trap him [Jesus] with this question: “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?” Jesus replied, “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:35-40, New Living Translation)

The life of a Christ-follower is rich in its depth and complexity. The possibilities are endless for new insights and new applications. We will never completely understand it. I personally believe we will even keep learning when we are in Heaven, as we spend eternity interacting with Jesus and the community of those who, through the ages, have responded in faith to the revelation of God.

But the fact that the Christian life is COMPLEX does not mean that it is COMPLICATED.

Jesus said that all of the requirements of God can basically be boiled down into two commandments: 1. Love God. 2. Love people.

If we spend our lives learning how to obey those two inextricably entwined instructions more deeply, we will fulfill the purpose for which we are created.

Question: How do you see the connection between loving God and loving people?
