Happy I’m-reminiscing-today Saturday, friends!

Through a series of events spanning several years, Mrs. Sweetie and I did something Thursday night that is not in our normal list of activities.

We went to a rock concert.

One must be of a certain age to appreciate that we saw Ambrosia, John Ford Coley, and Three Dog Night—bands from our childhood and early teens.

Our tickets were compliments of the merchandise manager for Three Dog Night, who contacted us to let us know they were in town and he’d love to see us.

Mrs. Sweetie was his Sunday School Teacher the last few years we lived in Azle.

Crazy!

I looked around at one point and realized that we—in our early to mid-60s—were some of the younger folks in the crowd!

And it was fun! Seriously!

Sometimes I make a comment about being “old.”

And here were guys in their 70s and 80s singing their faces off for 3 hours!

In an unexpected way, it was inspiring to me to keep going and keep singing.

Do they sound like they did in 1969? Or 1976?

Of course not.

Did anyone in the room care?

I can’t imagine that they did.

There’s something about hearing the playlist of your youth.

My hymn text today is similar.

Leon Patillo released a lot of Contemporary Christian music in the 1980s.

When I was singing this song this morning, I remembered that I saw him in concert around 1983 in the exact same auditorium we were in on Thursday night.

What a journey!

“Sing unto the Lord a new song, for He loves to hear our praises.”

Every old song was once new.

And whether we’re the ones on the stage or the ones in the audience, whether singing old songs or new, whether we can carry a tune or not …

God loves to hear our praises.

He loves to see our joy.

He loves it when we trust Him.

He loves us.

Keep on trusting, keep on rocking (😉)
