Happy I’m-Baaaaack-Saturday, friends!
I’ve missed writing the past couple of weeks and have to rush a bit this morning because I have a ministry event to get to.
Mrs. Sweetie and I just returned from a wonderful week’s vacation in Utah with one set of our kids and grands.
I’ve only included a couple of my favorite photos from the trip, instead of the entire album!
The reason for Utah was the wedding of a precious young lady who grew up next door to us. Her family is like family to us and it was truly a blessing for me to get to officiate her wedding.
Hearing them read the vows they wrote to each other—vows so full of their shared faith in Jesus—was truly moving.
The event I’m headed to today is actually day two of the West Plains Global Methodist Conference. I’m attending as a representative of Texans on Mission and the On Mission Network.
Yesterday ended with an ordination service of deacons and elders in the GMC.
I’ve attended and participated in many Baptist ordination services over the years, but ours, being non-liturgical, have a different feel.
I honestly love getting to be part of the wide variety of expressions within the global family of faith and it was a beautiful service.
I think it fits well with my verses this morning from Psalm 143:
“Show me the way I should go,for to you I entrust my life …Teach me to do your will, for you are my God;may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.”
I wrote this in the margin of my Bible:
“And help me to be teachable.”
Here’s an inconvenient truth: I won’t learn anything that I’m unwilling to learn.
Neither will you.
I’m praying that God will give us humble, teachable spirits as we go about our business in a world that desperately needs an accurate picture of what it means to be Jesus followers.
I’m currently reading the newest book by my former seminary professor (and current friend) Dr. Dan Crawford. It’s a collection of words of advice.
The one I read yesterday really spoke to me:
“If you keep walking straight, eventually people can see who’s walking crooked.”
Such a great reminder that there’s never a right time to do the wrong thing.
Keep walking straight and be amazing today, my friend.
