He pressed them, “And how about you? Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter said, “You’re the Christ, the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:15-16, The Message)
Each time I write Dr. G’s Morning Cup of Encouragement, or Life Matters, or anything else, I seek to fulfill my mission of blessing, encouraging, and empowering others on their journey of faith. But there is an “other side” of encouragement, over which I have no control.
That “other side” is determined by how each person answers the most important question in the world: “Who do you, personally and individually, say that Jesus is?” There is only one answer that leads to the true encouragement of knowing and following Jesus. That is the answer that Simon Peter gave: You are the Christ (God’s one and only anointed), the Son (one and only uniquely) of the living (one and only true) God.
If you have answered that question in that way, I can encourage you on your journey. If you have not yet answered that way, but are at least willing to consider and keep seeking and investigating, I can encourage you. If you have made up your mind that Jesus is no more than a good teacher with some good things to say, I can only confuse and frustrate you.
I determine the transmission. You determine the reception.
Question: Where are you on the journey of answering life’s most important question?
I’d love to hear your thoughts.
