Last Saturday…

began with a full morning of meetings at the headquarters of Texans on Mission and today begins with a full morning choir rehearsal at my home church First Baptist Church Amarillo.

Makes it difficult to sit and ponder as I would like.

I’m also really excited to be singing two oratorios, written 253 years apart, in the next few weeks: “Saviour” – with the sanctuary choir of FBC Amarillo, this coming Sunday (March 2) in both morning services (8:30 & 11:00); “Messiah” – with the Amarillo Master Chorale 45th anniversary celebration at the Globe News Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, April 12 (7:00 pm).

At least my Saturday mornings are being taken up with things I love and things that matter.

I have neither the time nor the heart today to ponder publicly what is heavy on my heart except to say that these two ministries allow me to be part of pushing back the brokenness that dominates the news cycle.

To know that there are those who are bringing help, hope, and healing to anyone in crisis—without political motivations and without assessing blame—in the name of Jesus is profoundly encouraging.

And to be able to use the incredible gift of music to exalt Jesus as the true King, Savior, Messiah—not a mascot of any other wannabe kingdoms, but the only true eternal King whose rule is love—is profoundly humbling.

So, in times of discouragement, I choose to keep looking to Jesus and finding ways to be His hands, feet, heart, and voice to my neighbors that He puts before me.

I won’t ask “Who is my neighbor?” but “who needs to be “neighbored” in the name and grace of Jesus.

And now I’m going to sing.

Be amazing today, my friend.
