“Thus we have been set free to experience our rightful heritage. You can tell for sure that you are now fully adopted as his own children because God sent the Spirit of his Son into our lives crying out, ‘Papa! Father!’ Doesn’t that privilege of intimate conversation with God make it plain that you are not a slave, but a child? And if you are a child, you’re also an heir, with complete access to the inheritance.” (Galatians 4:5-7, The Message)
Do you ever get those scam email messages where some “lawyer” representing the estate of some wealthy person in Africa has selected you to inherit a large sum of money because you are the kind of person to whom they want to leave all their money? I get several of those every week, it seems.
Do you ever dream what you would do with an unexpected inheritance? Or is it only me?
For those of us who have responded in faith to the grace of God offered in Jesus Christ, we don’t have to simply dream of an inheritance. We have one! It is an eternal inheritance given to us because we are children of the King and Creator of the universe.
But the best part of our adoption as children of God is not that we have access to His “stuff;” we have access to Him. I love the way this version describes the “privilege of intimate conversation with God.” We KNOW the One to whom we pray. He is not simply the Heavenly Father up there somewhere. He is Papa … Daddy … Abba … Baba … right here and right now.
Question: With such an intimate view of God, how do we maintain proper reverence for His holiness?
