Do you realize that God has invited you into His mission in the world?

God loves every person so much that He wants every person to know Him.

Not simply to believe that there is a God, but to know Him personally and align our lives to His eternal purposes.

I read this statement this morning in The Worldview Study Bible: “God commands all believers to participate in his global mission. This is God’s intent. It is not a sign of a weak God who needs us. It is the reality of a sovereign God who demands for us to serve alongside him. This is for his glory, not ours.”

I do not disagree with that statement, but I want to view it from a different vantage point.

Jesus said clearly, in one of the most familiar verses in all of the Bible, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

He also said, in another very familiar passage, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)

This passage is often called “The Great Commission.”

The first phrase could be literally translated, “ Going, therefore, disciple all the nations” (“nations” refers to people groups, not geopolitical boundaries).

Our commission is driven by an understanding of how much God loves every person.

But, have you thought about why He chooses to use us?

Is it simply because He wants us to obey Him?

I submit that His commission is a sign of His love for us, not simply His love for those who don’t yet know Him.

God invites (commissions) us into His mission because He loves us too much to let us miss out on what He is doing in the world.

Pause.

Go back and read that paragraph again.

God does not need us.

We are not simply tools in His hands to accomplish His bidding.

He invites us to BE His hands extending His loving invitation to the world.

God’s greatest expression of love extends from what He did FOR us (sending Jesus to die for our sins and give us eternal life) through what He does IN us (bringing us out of darkness/deception/spiritual death into light/truth/life) to what He does THROUGH us (extending His invitation to the world).

This perspective, I think, does not minimize the call to obedience. It actually magnifies it because we understand the incredible honor of being chosen by God to be included in His mission.

He sends those who know He loves them to those who need to know He loves them.

Question: How have you responded to God’s invitation?
